FREE REINDEER FOOD BAG TOPPERS
Every year on Christmas Eve when we put out milk and cookies for Santa, we also go outside and throw out food for his reindeer! We started this tradition years ago when my kids were toddlers and we have kept it going ever since. The story goes that if you put reindeer food out before bed on Christmas Eve, it guides the reindeer to your house at night.
It has to be hard work flying a sleigh all around the world in one night and just like Santa, the reindeer need snacks too! What kid wouldn’t love the idea of leaving food out for magic reindeer?!
Making reindeer food is a really fun and inexpensive Christmas activity too. It’s a great activity for kid’s Christmas parties or you can just do it at your house with your own kiddos.
This year my kids made a few extra packs to give out to some of their friends and we thought it would be fun to share the reindeer food bag toppers we use with you too! This is my version with our custom wording.
WHAT DO SANTA’S REINDEER EAT?
When adding food to the bags we try to find food that isn’t harmful to any wildlife that might come along before the reindeer eat it all up. We stay away from glitter or chocolate or anything else that wouldn’t be good for animals to eat.
Some of our favorite things to put in the reindeer food bags are:
Oatmeal
Sprinkles
Marshmallows
Bird Seed
Bread Crumbs
As you can see this year we stuck with steel cut oatmeal and some sprinkles! That’s what we had on hand and I’m always looking for quick and easy. We also usually put some fresh carrots out on the sidewalk when we put the food out... Because you know, reindeer love carrots! I think…
Aren’t these reindeer food bag toppers just so cute! We absolutely love this tradition. I designed the bag toppers so that you cut them out and fold them backwards. Then just put your clear bag between where you folded the toppers back and staple it on. The printable comes with four tags per page. We also left a line on the back so your child can write their name on their bag of reindeer food. If your kids are like mine, they don’t want to share their creation and want to keep it separate from their siblings!
